Traveling and volunteering have been a rewarding, enriching and huge part of our lives! This was our 16th trip—sweet 16! I can't imagine how different our lives would have been if we'd stayed home, gone to Florida or another warm state or even traveled through a travel agency. I'm sure we'd have enjoyed them but doubt we'd feel as rich and fulfilled as I feel today. The countless people we've met...many who we keep in touch with...the unique and spontaneous experience we've had and mostly the hugs & smiles we've shared with others...some very needy & some remarkable who help the very needy. This trip seemed to include so much covering 4 countries, accommodations from plush to minimal, sprawling metropolitan areas to remote regions. Always we see people doing what most American do: working, eating, caring for their kids & being kind to each other. Their homes like ours have kitchens, beds and a place to eat & gather. We are much more similar than different. I am lucky to travel to so many places with someone with remarkable logistic abilities & is easy to get along with. I also know, I am most truly blessed to be excited to come home to my "real" life!

Winnie the Pooh's philosophy emphasizes that travel and journeys are transformative, teaching us to embrace change, cherish memories, and appreciate the people we meet. Through simple wisdom, Pooh teaches that leaving familiar places allows us to grow, often finding that the journey itself changes our hearts and perspectives.
I can say that our journeys have reinforced all of the above. Friendly and helpful people in all parts of the world have been willing to reach out to us to offer advice, lend a hand, or speak to us using our language rather than their own. Young people especially seem to enjoy practicing their English while helping us.
The journey can be challenging and uncertain at times, but those challenges often lead to some of the best experiences and memories.
In the end, we are reminded that people are much more alike than they are different. Most are just trying to do the best they can for the ones they love…just like everyone we have ever known in Michigan. Maybe the best and possibly the only way to really learn this is by actually experiencing it. Our perspective gradually changes and our hearts follow. We hope to return some of the goodwill and kindness shown to us by welcoming and assisting travelers to our region of the world.
